Cruising Sailing; It’s all about the people you meet.
After meeting Brian B1 and Marie and hearing their tales of sailing
to Shark Bay and return in the company of another boat, we began to look at
different options and ideas on where we thought we would like to sail to.
The Kimberley region in WA, was one big hairy goal that we had in
mind. We had read many many stories about yacht rallies to places like the
Louisades and Indonesia.
At that point though, with our business growing rapidly it was hard
to see how we would possibly get the time to venture anywhere that took more
than a week.
We had to persevere with many 14 to 15 hours days as all our energy
went into running our business, while the boat waited in it’s marina pen. We
would use it for a few hours on the weekend, then it was a quick clean and pack
away again. Each time we used the boat we longed to do more.
An opportunity came to us at that point. A friend of mine from way
back called to say he was unhappy working where he was, did I know of any work
around in business management lines.
I suggested that he come and see us, to talk about the possibility
of a business development role with us. I knew he was keen on running his own
show one day. After our first initial discussion I saw an opportunity for us to
be free of the business.
Perseverance was demanded at this time. Leanne found it hard to see
how Allan was the key to us being free of the business, yet retaining some
income from it. I presented many financial scenarios to her. To me it was
straight forward. He wanted a chance to make some money and we wanted to pay to
get our free time back.
Allan joined our business. However the business grew even further, which meant that we were still tied to it.
At this time, with the help of Brian and Marie, our catamaran
friends, we were offered the opportunity to move to the Mandurah Marina. We had
no sooner moved our boat to the new accommodation, then we were introduced to
Brian (B2) and Eva. These were the folks that Brian (B1) and Marie had sailed
to Shark bay with.
One of our early encounters with B2 was when we asked if he wouldn’t
mind helping us get our new mattress on board and into situ on our boat. He
kindly assisted and then proceeded up and down the G jetty at Mandurah Marina,
telling everyone he could find, that the catamaran Easy Tiger had a new
mattress and would be trying it out tonight. Check for smiling faces in the
morning.
Six months later, we hatched a plan to all go sailing to the
Abrohlis Islands together
